15 Sep Haunting of Keystone 2026 | Black Hills Haunted Attractions
Three Haunted Attractions. One Great Price.
Looking for one of the most unique Halloween events in the Black Hills? This October, The Haunting of Keystone returns to Keystone, South Dakota, bringing three haunted attractions together for multiple unforgettable and scary weekends.
Located near Mount Rushmore in the heart of the Black Hills, The Haunting of Keystone isn’t your typical haunted house. Instead of walking through a temporary attraction in a warehouse, you’ll venture underground into actual caves and mines and through the darkened halls of a historic schoolhouse.
One ticket bundle gives you admission to all three haunted attractions:
Rushmore Cave at Rush Mountain Adventure Park
Keystone Victorian Schoolhouse Museum
Tickets are sold in specific time blocks and are expected to sell out on popular nights, so purchasing tickets online in advance is highly recommended.
This is not your ordinary Haunted House
What makes The Haunting of Keystone different from other haunted attractions in South Dakota is its setting.
These aren’t buildings constructed to look like caves, mines and old schools. They’re the real thing.
Three of Keystone’s well-known attractions are transformed after dark into completely different experiences, each with it’s own unique theme.
Down the Rabbit Hole at Rushmore Cave
The 2026 theme at Rushmore Cave is Down the Rabbit Hole, where you never know what lurks around the next dark corner. The cave’s natural formations, narrow passages, changing elevations and underground darkness create an environment that simply can’t be duplicated inside a traditional haunted house. Add to that the theme’s scare factor and well…..it’s not for the faint of heart.
Rushmore Cave is located at Rush Mountain Adventure Park, approximately five miles east of Keystone on Highway 40 and is the starting attraction for all ticket bundles.
Through The Veil, Your Nightmares Await at Big Thunder Gold Mine
The historic mine in Keystone provides another naturally eerie setting for The Haunting of Keystone. Visitors make their way through an environment filled with rocky ceilings, underground passages and the remnants of Keystone’s gold mining history but at night, weird things appear and it get far more sinister! So BEWARE!
Macabre Masquerade at the Keystone Victorian Schoolhouse Museum
Your final destination may look harmless during daylight hours when the schoolhouse preserves the history of Keystone and the surrounding Black Hills, but at night, well, that’s another story.
The historic Keystone Victorian Schoolhouse Museum is transformed into a multi-level haunted experience filled with dark rooms, hallways, staircases and plenty of unexpected encounters. The building dates to Keystone’s early history, which gives this haunt an atmosphere that’s truly authentic. During The Haunting of Keystone, its three stories become considerably less educational and a whole lot more terrifying.
When is the Haunting of Keystone 2026?
The Haunting of Keystone is scheduled for four weekends in October 2026:

An Award Winning Black Hills Tradition with Community Benefits
The Haunting of Keystone has grown from a local Halloween event into a recognized Black Hills attraction in its own right.
Holy Terror Days/The Haunting of Keystone received the 2023 Peter Norbeck Excellence in Tourism Innovation Award from Travel South Dakota. The award recognizes tourism organizations for innovative promotions and visitor experiences.
The event also benefits the community. A portion of proceeds from the 2026 event will help support the Keystone Victorian Schoolhouse Museum.
That means every scream helps support a little piece of Keystone history.
